"In my work, the search is intimate and predicated on the old equation of head, heart and hand. I begin with a few formal restrictions such as the basic configuration of clay slabs, or the simple architecture of lines at the beginning of a drawing, but the themes and juxtapositions emerge only over time. I am acutely aware that there is a close link between the physical and metaphysical. How does the form respond as I apply more clay to the surface? Figures, flowers, walls, embraces, longings, all take shape, literal shape. Ceramic, wood, bronze, pastel are my major mediums. In a year, much will happen."
