Boston, MA – The Boston Sculptors Gallery presents Opposites Attract, featuring a diverse collection of new works inspired by the title’s theme as interpreted by its 38 sculptor members. A story shall not exist without conflict. In art, this narrative is evidenced in the push and pull of positive and negative space, the interplay of colors from opposite sides of the spectrum, and the combination of unexpected materials and processes. Early literature demonstrated the necessity to create curiosity and paradox, and Romantic fiction has forever been consumed with the idea of drawing together forces that share no commonality: Romeo and Juliet, Harry and Sally, the Odd Couple. In these unexpected pairings, charm and humor are fueled by instability. Science points to alternative theories; that the laws of attraction draw us to those who are like us; that the act of repelling is in fact overshadowed by opposites coming together, compensating for each other’s differences and weaknesses.
Gallery Director Almitra Stanley explains, “With nearly a 100 works on display, Opposites Attract showcases the staggering range of styles, techniques, and media our sculptors embrace, and offers something for every art lover. Come find what attracts you!” Priced from $100 to $1000, the works will be “cash and carry” for instant gratification. A 10% discount will be offered to first-time collectors as a special incentive to make that first purchase.
Founded in 1992, Boston Sculptors is a landmark cooperative gallery presenting innovative contemporary sculpture, including traditional and emerging media, installations and public art. With exhibitions changing monthly, the space is constantly transformed. Located in the heart of Boston’s SOWA arts district, it is the only sculpture collective in the United States to maintain its own gallery.
