The Second Sunday Concert Series at Boston Sculptors Gallery presents a monthly collaboration with Boston area musicians, programmed by Music Director Aaron Jay Myers. The musicians are often inspired by the sculpture on display and perform interactive works in response to it. All events are free and open to the public and donations directly support the musicians.

The Boston Conservatory at Berklee String Sextet:

Biography:
The string sextet (2 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos) repertoire, while not as extensive as that of the string quartet, includes some beloved masterpieces. Brahms wrote two, Dvorak – one, and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence is a concert favorite. Other composers such as Korngold, Shulhoff and Boccherini (who wrote six!) were interested as well in the added lower voices.  Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) is considered his earliest important work; originally for sextet, he later arranged the piece for string orchestra. The BCB String Sextet was formed initially to perform Verklärte Nacht.  The members of the ensemble, violinists Jesus Saenz (Peru) and Veronica Rider (US), violists Louie Lau (Hong Kong) and Rebecca Miller (US), and cellists Johnny Mok (Hong Kong) and Alexander Ullman (US) decided to stay together and explore more of the rich sextet repertoire.
